Donating blood is a noble act that can save lives and contribute to the well-being of others. In the UAE, the process of blood donation has been made accessible through various hospitals, clinics, and health authorities. Understanding the requirements and post-donation care is essential to ensure a smooth and successful donation experience.

Before proceeding with the donation, it's important to meet certain criteria set by the Emirates Health Services:

- Donors must be between the ages of 18-65 years.
- The donor's weight should not be below 50kg.
- Good general health condition is a prerequisite for donation.
- Blood pressure must fall within the range of 50/100 to 90/180 (mm Hg).
- Normal body temperature should not exceed 37.5°C.
- The pulse rate should be between 50-100 pulses per minute.
- Valid Emirates ID must be presented.
- Pregnant and lactating women are advised against donation for their own and their baby's health.

After donation, proper care is essential to ensure a quick recovery and minimize any potential side effects. Some post-donation care tips recommended by healthcare professionals include:

- Consuming healthy food and fluids before leaving the donation facility.
- Drinking extra fluids and maintaining hydration for at least 24 hours post-donation.
- Avoiding smoking for at least an hour after donation.
- Keeping the bandage on for 3-4 hours and avoiding strenuous activities or workouts for the next 24 hours.
- Applying pressure and raising the arm above the head in case of bleeding.
- Seeking medical attention if feeling lightheaded, dizzy, or experiencing any unusual symptoms.

For frequent donors, iron supplements may be recommended to maintain healthy iron levels in the body.

In the event of any concerns or complications, it's important to know when to seek medical help:

- Testing positive for Covid-19 or experiencing symptoms within five days of donation.
- Opting out of blood donation.
- Fainting or developing a large bruise post-donation.
- Testing positive for hepatitis or HIV within the next 12 months.

Various centers across the UAE offer blood donation services, including:
