UAE Weather Alert: Heavy Rain Forecast

UAE Weather Forecast Heavy Rain
UAE Weather Forecast Heavy Rain

UAE residents are advised to prepare for a shift in weather patterns as the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) forecasts heavy rain, lightning, and possible hail in some areas next week. Following a week of pleasant weather characterized by overcast skies and a chill in the air, the upcoming weather conditions are expected to be more tumultuous.

According to the NCM, an upper air depression will deepen gradually from Sunday to Tuesday, leading to increased cloudiness in scattered areas across the UAE. These clouds are likely to bring convective activity, resulting in varying intensity of rainfall, lightning, thunder, and potentially hail in certain regions. Additionally, temperatures are anticipated to decrease as a result of this weather system.

The wind patterns are forecasted to shift from southeasterly to northeasterly, ranging from fresh to strong at times, particularly with the presence of clouds. This shift in wind direction may lead to blowing dust and sand, with wind speeds expected to range from 15 – 25 reaching 45 Km/hr.

Sea conditions are also expected to be affected, with rough to very rough conditions anticipated in the Arabian Gulf and rough conditions in the Oman Sea, especially during cloudy periods.

These weather disturbances are attributed to a surface low-pressure system in the Southwest, accompanied by humid southeasterly winds. Additionally, an upper air depression with a cold air mass and a westerly trough is contributing to varying cloud cover from the west.

Recent temperature recordings highlight the fluctuating weather conditions in the region. On February 4th, the UAE recorded its lowest temperature, dropping to near-freezing at 3.4°C in the Jebel Jais Mountains. A chilly 4.2ºC was recorded at 5 am on February 3rd at Jebel Jais in Ras Al Khaimah, breaking Al Ain's previous record of 5.3ºC in Raknah on January 10th.

Renowned astronomer Ibrahim Al-Jarwan, a member of the Arab Federation for Space and Astronomy, predicts an increase in rainfall throughout February as the region enters the 'Scorpion Season'. This period, spanning 40 days from February 6th to March 17th, is characterized by abundant rain and fluctuating winds between Northwest and Northeast.

During the 'Scorpion Season', the northern regions of the Arabian Peninsula are expected to experience winter freeze, particularly during the first and second weeks of February. Residents of the Al Jouf region and surrounding areas may encounter the 'February frost', a notable climatic occurrence during this period.

In preparation for the changing weather conditions, residents are advised to stay informed through official channels and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety and well-being. As weather patterns evolve, it is essential to remain vigilant and adapt accordingly to minimize potential risks associated with the impending weather disturbances.
