Streamlined Process for Golden Visas in the UAE

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is set to introduce a streamlined process for obtaining Golden Visas, offering significant benefits to eligible property owners. Officials from the Federal Authority for Identity Citizenship Customs & Port Security (ICP) announced at the UAE Innovates exhibition that individuals owning property valued at Dh2 million or more will be granted Golden Visas automatically, without the need for a separate application process.

This innovative approach aims to simplify the visa acquisition process for qualifying residents. By linking the land departments of each emirate to the ICP portal, authorities will be able to verify property ownership and assess eligibility for the Golden Visa during the visa renewal process. Those meeting the criteria will receive the visa automatically, eliminating the need for a separate application.

Originally introduced in 2018, Golden Visas were initially reserved for residents who made outstanding contributions to the UAE. Over time, the eligibility criteria expanded to include property owners, investors, frontline workers, and high-achieving students. Earlier this year, the government further relaxed conditions for property owners by removing the requirement for a minimum down payment of Dh1 million. Real estate agents disclosed that individuals purchasing properties valued above Dh2 million could apply for the visa, even if they opt for a payment plan or mortgage.

The implementation of this initiative is expected to occur in the near future, allowing eligible individuals to obtain Golden Visas directly from immigration authorities. This streamlined process reflects the UAE government's commitment to fostering innovation and facilitating residency for qualifying individuals.

The Golden Visa, valid for ten years, offers numerous advantages to holders, including the ability to sponsor residence permits for family members such as spouses and children. Recent enhancements to the visa program include an increase in the age limit for sponsoring sons from 18 to 25 years and the removal of age restrictions for unmarried daughters. Additionally, there are no limitations on sponsoring domestic workers, and the Golden Residence remains valid without restrictions on the maximum duration of stay outside the UAE.

The popularity of Golden Visas has surged among UAE residents since their inception. The visa's appeal extends to international investors, particularly from Europe, who see it as an attractive incentive for investment in the UAE, particularly in Dubai. The General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) – Dubai reported a significant increase in the number of Golden Visas issued in the emirate, indicating growing demand among investors.

The announcement was made during the UAE Innovates exhibition, a platform showcasing innovative projects from various government agencies. This event signifies the culmination of efforts to promote a culture of innovation across the nation. UAE Innovates, an annual event since 2015, supports the implementation of the national innovation strategy and recognizes individuals and organizations for their innovative contributions.

In summary, the UAE's introduction of automatic Golden Visas for qualifying property owners reflects a commitment to innovation and efficiency in the visa acquisition process. This initiative is poised to benefit residents and investors alike, contributing to the UAE's continued growth and development as a global hub for business and innovation.
