UAE roads turn into rivers as heavy rains drench Emirates
A deluge of rain has transformed roads across the UAE into flowing rivers, following a night of thunderstorms and continued heavy rainfall. Police have issued warnings to motorists to exercise caution and adhere to road safety regulations to prevent accidents in these challenging conditions.
Videos circulating online depict the severity of the downpour, with vehicles navigating through waterlogged streets resembling fast-moving streams. The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) has issued orange and yellow alerts across the country and surrounding seas, cautioning residents about ongoing cloud cover and heavy rainfall expected until Wednesday.
One video shared by 'storm chasers' Storm Centre captures a manhole ejecting muddy water, creating a makeshift fountain amid inundated roads. Such scenes are particularly common in mountainous areas, where the rainwater runoff transforms valleys into rushing torrents, as seen in footage near Hatta, located in the eastern mountainous region of the UAE.
In Al Ain, residents woke up to hailstones covering their surroundings, while streaks of lightning illuminated the night sky in Dubai, accompanied by thunder and intermittent rain showers.
The authorities' alerts emphasize the need for vigilance and adherence to safety protocols during inclement weather conditions, particularly when navigating flooded roads. These measures are crucial to minimizing the risk of accidents and ensuring public safety amidst the ongoing heavy rainfall across the Emirates.
