UAE Residents Ring in 2024 with Diverse New Year Celebrations
The New Year celebrations in the UAE were marked by late-night festivities and unique ways of bidding farewell to 2023. While many residents embraced the bright side of the occasion, some encountered challenges on their way back home in the early hours of January 1, 2024. From camping in Wadis to yacht rides, people created special moments with family and friends.
One family, led by Lebanese expat Abdullah Yasin, chose to camp at Hatta Dam for a big family get-together. Around 25 family members gathered at a scenic spot near the dam, enjoying a perfect day with tents, food, and breathtaking fireworks over the Hatta sign. After cleaning up, they reached home at 4:30 am, having celebrated the end of 2023 in a memorable way.
Another unique celebration involved a yacht ride to nearby islands, as shared by Bashar Mihyar, the marketing director at the Captain's Club. Leaving Yas Marina around 9-9:30 pm, the group reached an island close to Yas Island, where they set up a bonfire, had a barbecue, and enjoyed music while watching distant fireworks in Yas Bay.
While these celebrations brought joy to many, some residents faced challenges returning home. A few revelers encountered traffic congestion in popular destinations, leading to delays in their journeys back. The diverse experiences of residents reflected the variety of ways people embraced the New Year, creating a mix of late-night celebrations, memorable moments, and, for some, traffic-related challenges.
