UAE Couple Injured in Prague Shooting Faces Bullet Lodging, Munich Treatment
The Emirati couple injured in the Prague mass shooting in December remains in stable condition after multiple surgeries. Rowdah Al Mehrizi, director of marketing and corporate communication at Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority, and her husband, Ahmed Ibrahim Al Ali, director-general of the Umm Al Quwain Municipality, were vacationing in Prague when the attack occurred. Due to bullet remains lodged in their bodies, they will be transferred to a hospital in Munich, Germany, for further treatment. The couple will be accompanied by their family members, who are currently caring for them during their recovery in a Czech hospital.
The deadly attack, which took place near Charles University square, resulted in the death of 14 people and injuries to 25 others. The gunman, identified as David Kozak, a student at the university, had no prior criminal record but possessed an arsenal of weapons. The motive for the crime remains undisclosed. The shooting, the worst in Czech Republic’s history, occurred in Jan Palach Square, a major tourist area in Prague’s Old Town.
Dr. Khalifa Al Mehrizi, Rowdah’s brother and a family relations expert, expressed gratitude for the support and assistance from UAE leaders. His Highness Sheikh Saud bin Rashid Al Mualla, Ruler of Umm Al Quwain, and Dubai Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum personally called the couple to check on their condition. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs, commended the Czech government for taking care of the wounded Emiratis. Officials from RTA, including director general and chairman Mattar Al Tayer, visited the couple in the hospital, wishing them a swift recovery and a prompt return to the UAE.
The couple's transfer to Munich for further treatment emphasizes the seriousness of their injuries and the need for specialized medical care. The support from UAE leaders and government officials reflects the nation's commitment to the well-being of its citizens, especially in times of crisis. As the couple continues their recovery, their story serves as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of global events and the importance of international cooperation and support for those affected by such incidents.
