Sheikh Hamdan stresses MBRSC's role in developing UAE's technological capabilities

Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai, recently chaired a crucial meeting of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre (MBRSC) Board of Directors. During the meeting, he underscored the pivotal role played by the MBRSC in bolstering the technological capabilities of the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Emphasizing the center's significant involvement in driving the UAE's technological advancements, Sheikh Hamdan highlighted its leading role in inspiring and executing various Emirati missions and projects within the space sector. He expressed how the MBRSC continues to strengthen the UAE's National Space Programme while contributing to global space exploration endeavors.

One of the key highlights of the meeting was the review of strategic plans aimed at the development and launch of satellites under the UAE Satellite Programme. Among these satellites, the MBZ-SAT stands out as the most advanced satellite in the region, scheduled for launch by October of the current year. Additionally, the meeting discussed the progress of HCT-SAT 1, an Earth-observation CubeSat developed in collaboration with students from the Higher Colleges of Technology. This initiative aims to integrate space technology into the education sector, fostering innovation and expertise among future generations.

Sheikh Hamdan also received updates on significant projects such as the Emirates Airlock project, which involves the development of a crew and science airlock module for the Gateway lunar space station. With the UAE's recent participation in this multi-agency project, the country is poised to make substantial contributions to lunar exploration efforts. Another noteworthy project discussed during the meeting was the Rashid Rover 2, the latest mission dedicated to lunar exploration.

In his remarks, Sheikh Hamdan emphasized that the strategic vision of the UAE in developing and launching advanced technology and missions aims not only to advance the country's space sector but also to inspire future generations to dream big and strive for excellence. He highlighted how each new project launched by the MBRSC contributes to enhancing national capabilities and solidifying the UAE's position as a global leader in innovation and excellence in space sciences.

Following the meeting, Sheikh Hamdan met with UAE astronauts Mohammad AlMulla and Nora AlMatrooshi, congratulating them on successfully completing their training as fully qualified astronauts. He was briefed on their rigorous two-year training program and the future missions they are prepared to undertake.
