Sharjah Ruler Funds Eco-Friendly Arabic Language Council HQ in Mauritania
The inauguration of the Arabic Language Council's new headquarters in Nouakchott, Mauritania, took place on Monday, presided over by Mauritania President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani and funded by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Ruler of Sharjah. The Academy aims to foster the development of the Arabic language in Mauritania and beyond, uniting a distinguished group of scholars. Ahmed Sid Ahmed Dié, Mauritanian Minister of Culture, expressed gratitude for Sheikh Dr. Sultan's generous contribution, highlighting the project's significance.
The ceremony, attended by diplomatic and media figures, featured Mohamed Hassan Khalaf, an ALA Board of Trustees member, conveying a message from the Ruler of Sharjah. The event emphasized supporting scientific projects and efforts to empower the Arabic language globally, underscoring the strong UAE-Mauritania relationship.
Ahmed Sid Ahmed Dié presented a commemorative shield to the Ruler of Sharjah, acknowledging his efforts in promoting Islamic and Arabic culture and language worldwide. Dr. Khalil Al Nahwi, Chairman of the Arabic Language Council in Mauritania, highlighted the council's achievements and the support received from Sheikh Dr. Sultan and the Arabic Language Academy in Sharjah.
The unveiling of a commemorative plaque marked the building's opening, followed by a ribbon-cutting ceremony and a tour of the eco-friendly, two-floor headquarters. The building houses administrative offices, study halls, meeting rooms, a library, and Al Qasimiya Hall for seminars. The Ruler of Sharjah funded the construction and furnishing of the headquarters, which includes a mosque accommodating over 300 worshippers.
Located in the University district on land provided by the Mauritanian government, the headquarters reflects the Mauritanian architectural style. The initiative underscores Sheikh Dr. Sultan's commitment to promoting Arabic language and culture globally, exemplifying the enduring collaboration between the UAE and Mauritania in advancing linguistic and cultural endeavors.
