The tragic incident of a Kenyan man jumping to his death from the 30th floor to escape a fire in a Sharjah building has left his family devastated. Omanua Godfrey Shikanda, 36, was the sole breadwinner for his wife and two children back in Kenya. His brother, Dickson Okusimba, shared the heart-wrenching details of the events leading to Shikanda's untimely demise.
Shikanda was sleeping when the fire broke out in the building, and upon waking to thick smoke, he made the desperate decision to jump from his window in a bid to save himself. Tragically, his attempt ended fatally, leaving his family grappling with unbearable pain. Okusimba, who was away on a business trip at the time of the incident, was devastated upon learning of his brother's fate.
Shikanda, a supervisor at a piping company, had been working in the UAE for nine years. His sudden and tragic departure has left a void in his family that can never be filled. He leaves behind a grieving wife and two young children, aged 14 and six, who relied on him as their sole provider. Okusimba, upon returning from his trip, visited Shikanda's apartment only to find it in shambles after the fire.
The community is saddened by the loss of Shikanda, described as a generous and hardworking man. Efforts are underway to repatriate his body to Kenya, providing his family with closure amidst their grief. The tragic incident serves as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of life and the importance of cherishing every moment with loved ones.
