UAE residents can expect a spell of rain over the coming weekend as the country transitions into the summer season, according to weather experts. The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) has forecast showers, particularly over the eastern mountainous regions of the UAE.

Dr. Ahmed Habib, a climate expert from the NCM, spoke to Khaleej Times on Wednesday and mentioned that convective cloud activity is anticipated around June 8-9, which could lead to rainfall in these areas. The last significant rainfall in the UAE was nearly a month ago, with the early days of May bringing showers of varying intensities.

The weather conditions this month will be influenced by the extension of the Indian monsoons, as explained by Dr. Habib. He noted that clouds might develop intermittently over certain parts of the country, but the actual formation and resulting precipitation depend on several factors such as temperature, humidity, and wind direction. Current indicators point towards the presence of convective clouds over the eastern mountainous terrain, which are capable of producing rain.

Dr. Habib also mentioned that the rainfall would initially start in Oman due to convective cloud formation in the region. Although the UAE is not yet fully impacted by this monsoon system, it is expected to experience its effects gradually.

In addition to the rain forecast, temperatures across the UAE have been on the rise. Last week, the country recorded a high of 49.2°C, with temperatures exceeding 45°C on subsequent days. This increase is expected to continue, marking the usual pattern as the summer season progresses. Currently, temperatures have reached between 48-49°C and are gradually increasing across all areas.

Despite the rising temperatures, humidity levels have shown a slight decrease compared to May, particularly in the latter half of the month. This reduction in humidity also means there are fewer chances of fog or mist formation.

As the UAE braces for the summer heat, the anticipated rainfall provides a brief respite, especially for the residents in the eastern mountainous regions. The weather patterns this month, influenced by the Indian monsoon extension, will bring some variation amidst the scorching summer temperatures.
