In the UAE, companies are prioritizing the well-being of young parents by implementing parent-friendly policies that cater to their needs. From extended paternity leave to compassionate allowances for IVF treatments and miscarriages, these initiatives aim to support employees during significant life events.

James Michael Lafferty, CEO of Fine Hygienic Holding, shares a personal connection to these policies, having experienced the trauma of miscarriage with his wife. Recognizing the emotional toll of such events, his company introduced compassionate leave for employees facing similar challenges. This empathetic approach acknowledges the need for mourning and healing without adding undue stress to employees already coping with loss.

Other companies, like the Chalhoub Group and VFS Global, have also embraced progressive policies to support new parents. Chalhoub Group recently extended paternity leave to 30 days, allowing fathers more time to bond with their newborns and provide crucial support to their families. Similarly, VFS Global increased maternity leave to four months, emphasizing the importance of giving mothers ample time to recover and nurture their infants.

However, implementing such policies poses challenges, particularly for companies with diverse job profiles like the Galadari Group. Tailoring policies to accommodate various roles and responsibilities requires careful consideration and flexibility. Galadari Group addresses this by offering options like remote work for new mothers, allowing them to balance work and family commitments effectively.

Despite the complexities, these parent-friendly policies reflect a broader shift towards prioritizing employee well-being in the workplace. By acknowledging the diverse needs of their workforce and providing support during significant life events, companies not only foster a positive work culture but also enhance employee loyalty and satisfaction.
