In preparation for Ramadan, officials in the UAE have announced that Bitcoin and other digital currencies will be accepted for charitable donations. Mohammed Naqi, who serves as the director of the Non-benefit Public Associations Department at the Ministry of Community Development, emphasized the importance of adhering to legal fundraising methods to avoid penalties of up to Dh500,000. Only authorized entities, such as charitable associations and non-profit organizations, are permitted to raise funds for charity after obtaining approval from the Ministry of Community Development. These digital donations will complement traditional fundraising methods, including cash donations, receipts, vouchers, SMS donations, as well as activities such as markets, exhibitions, auctions, charity events, and monthly deductions from personal bank accounts.
