Today, on Leap Day, hospitals across the UAE witness the arrival of babies born on this extraordinary date, celebrated only once every four years.
In Ras Al Khaimah, Ma Jonah Anunciado, a Filipina expat, gave birth to a baby girl at RAK Hospital. Weighing 2.7kg, the newborn arrived at 4:52 am on February 29, 2024. The parents, Jonah and Novel Salazar, are elated but are yet to decide on the baby's name. This joyful occasion was marked by Dr. Raza Siddiqui, Executive Director of RAK Hospital, extending his congratulations and well wishes to the family.
Meanwhile, Thumbay University Hospital in Ajman also witnessed the birth of three babies, including two boys and one girl. Cerin Anna Jacob and Jashan Suhas, an Indian couple, welcomed a baby girl weighing 3.14kg at 2:30 am. Jashan expressed gratitude for the unexpected early arrival of their "little angel" on this rare leap year day. Another couple, Fazeela Rahmat and Mohammad Thwaha, also from India, celebrated the birth of their firstborn, a boy weighing 3.03kg at 6:33 am. Mohammad Thwaha expressed joy and gratitude for this "priceless gift" and the unique turn in their parenting journey.
Dr. Amal Hassan Abddelaziz, Head of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Thumbay University Hospital Ajman, emphasized the significance of delivering babies on a leap year, noting that it adds a special touch to the experience. The hospital staff extended their best wishes to the newborns and their mothers for a bright and healthy future.
