Living in the Burj Khalifa: A Resident's New Year's Eve Experience
As the iconic Burj Khalifa dazzles the world with its grand New Year's Eve celebrations, Dr Mina Jethu, a resident in the world's tallest tower, provides a unique perspective on the anticipation, excitement, and aftermath of the spectacular event.
Dr Jethu, a dentist originally from Amsterdam, was drawn to Dubai by the architectural splendor of the Burj Khalifa. For five years, she has had the privilege of celebrating New Year's Eve in this awe-inspiring location. The luxurious atmosphere, marked by high-end finishes and exquisite design, creates an unforgettable living experience for Dr Mina.
As a resident, Dr Jethu, along with her fellow Burj Khalifa and Armani residents, enjoys a designated area in Burj Park to witness the breathtaking fireworks up close. In the weeks leading up to the celebration, meticulous preparations unfold outside her living room window, resembling scenes from action movies like "Mission Impossible."
The process involves setting up fireworks along the sides of the Burj Khalifa, adding to the anticipation and excitement. Dr Jethu describes it as a marvel, akin to a cinematic sequence unfolding right outside her window.
Preparations for the New Year's Eve celebration include distributing wristbands and restricting exits from the Burj Khalifa after 10 pm to prioritize residents' safety. Dedicated staff members guide residents and guests, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable experience.
Dr Jethu, hosting a dinner party at her apartment every year before joining the festivities in Burj Park, shares the celebration with family and friends. The menu features delightful cuisine, including a traditional Dutch doughnut dessert called "Oliebollen." The group gathers their picnic basket filled with snacks and beverages to make their way to Burj Park, where food trucks and live entertainment contribute to the electrifying ambience.
Despite living in an apartment with a panoramic view of the fountain, Dr Jethu notes that the laser shows on the Burj Khalifa are not visible from inside. Only when dining at a restaurant with a view or exploring social media platforms can she fully appreciate the magnificence of the light show.
After the fireworks display, the clean-up process begins, promptly clearing debris from the entrance. Approximately 15 minutes after the show, attendees can exit the Burj Park area. The Burj Khalifa staff facilitates re-entry, conducting thorough security checks for a safe return. Remarkably, within a day, Downtown Burj Khalifa is restored to its usual state of cleanliness and functionality.
For Dr Mina Jethu and her fellow residents, spending New Year's Eve inside the Burj Khalifa is an unparalleled experience. From the anticipation and preparations to the exhilarating fireworks display and the swift restoration of normalcy, it is an extraordinary journey that leaves them with lasting memories and gratitude for being part of this iconic architectural marvel.
