Rajiv was confirmed to be a former member of the Toronto Police's auxiliary program, having served as a volunteer officer until 2016. His LinkedIn profile indicated that he worked with the Ontario Government's Ministry of Health.

Constable Taryn Young of the Peel Police stated that the fire has been classified as suspicious, with the Ontario Fire Marshal ruling out accidental causes. The extensive damage to the property made it challenging for investigators to determine the exact number of occupants during the fire.

Neighbours expressed shock and sadness over the tragic incident, recalling the family's presence in the community for approximately 15 years. Kenneth Yousaf, a neighbour, recounted hearing a loud noise before witnessing the house engulfed in flames. He described the scene as heartbreaking, with everything reduced to ashes within hours.
