Imran Khan opens up about heartbreak, depression
Bollywood actor Imran Khan has opened up about his struggles with heartbreak and depression following his divorce from Vantika Malik in 2019. In a candid interview with Humans of Bombay, Khan shared how the end of his marriage left him feeling like "a husk of a human being," both emotionally and physically.
Describing his state during that period, Khan said, "When I separated [from Vantika Malik], I was at my weakest—emotionally and physically. Brushing my teeth and taking a shower was a monumental ask. I didn't know if I could do that. I couldn't even get myself out of bed; I would stay in my pyjamas, turn the doorbell off, lock the door and just vegetate.”
Despite the overwhelming depression, Khan had parental responsibilities that forced him to maintain some semblance of normalcy. "I did have parental duties; we split custody, so Thursdays to Sundays, my daughter would be with me. So on the days that she [was] with me, it [didn't] matter how weak I [felt]. Whatever it is, you have to get out there," he explained. His role as a father provided him with the necessary motivation to push through his darkest days.
Khan's journey through depression was challenging, but he has since come out the other side. Earlier this year, in an interview with Vogue, he confirmed his relationship with actress Lekha Washington, making it official after months of speculation. "The speculation that I'm romantically involved with Lekha Washington is true. I'm divorced and have been separated since February 2019," he told Vogue.
The actor, known for his roles in movies such as "Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na," has taken a significant step by sharing his personal struggles with the public. His story highlights the profound impact of emotional turmoil and the importance of resilience. Khan's candid revelations serve as a reminder that even those in the public eye face personal battles and that seeking support and focusing on loved ones can be crucial steps in overcoming difficult times.
By opening up about his experiences, Khan not only sheds light on his own journey but also offers hope to others who might be going through similar struggles. His story is one of resilience and the importance of not giving up, no matter how insurmountable the challenges might seem.
