The Dubai Road Naming Committee has introduced a new standard for naming internal roads in the city, aiming to simplify navigation for motorists and visitors. The naming methodology combines names and numbers, starting with the naming of roads in the Al Khawaneej 2 area in the first phase. Streets in this area are now named after local trees and flowers, such as Al Ghaf Street, inspired by one of the region's popular tree species. The initiative seeks to create a distinctive identity for each road, reflecting the cultural legacy and futuristic aspirations of the emirate.

Dawoud Al Hajri, the Director General of Dubai Municipality and Chairman of the Dubai Road Naming Committee, emphasized the practical benefits of the new naming system in enhancing mobility across the city. The names assigned to roads will not only serve as identifiers but will also play a role in designating land use and guiding developmental projects in different sectors and regions.

The naming process incorporates the concept of inference, ensuring that names, roadside signs, and other features specific to each site are interconnected. This approach aims to help visitors mentally associate themselves with the location. Road signs featuring distinctive characters will convey the key elements of the road names, aiding in seamless navigation and locating various destinations and establishments.

In the first phase of the initiative, roads in Al Khawaneej 2 were named after local trees and flowers, introducing street names like Al Ghaf Street, Al Sidr, Basil, Al Faghi, Al Samr, and Al Sharish. This move aligns with the emirate's broader goals of incorporating a cultural and environmental narrative into its urban development.

Furthermore, the Dubai Road Naming Committee plans to involve the community in suggesting names for roads in upcoming phases of the initiative. Residents will have the opportunity to contribute ideas, promoting a sense of community engagement and ownership. The Committee will announce the procedures for community involvement in proposing new road names within specific areas.

By adopting this innovative approach to road naming, Dubai aims to enhance the overall urban experience, providing residents and visitors with a more intuitive and culturally rich environment. The initiative reflects the city's commitment to combining modern infrastructure with a thoughtful consideration of its heritage and community input.
