Dubai students aspire to make art more inclusive
Dubai, a bustling global hub, is witnessing a heartening initiative spearheaded by four compassionate high school students. Their endeavor, 'Empower-U', aims to revolutionize the art scene, making it more inclusive and accessible, especially for individuals with special needs.
What ignited this noble mission was a simple desire to promote the art of a fellow student with special needs. From this humble beginning, Empower-U has blossomed into a non-profit platform dedicated to showcasing and marketing the artistic talents of people of determination worldwide.
During their summer vacations, these students immersed themselves in the world of artists with special needs. Inspired by their experiences, Dev Vohra, Zahaan Anand, Akshaj Harihar, and Jaiditya Malik resolved to create a space where individuals with determination could shine through their creativity.
Zahaan Anand, co-founder of Empower-U, shares his enlightening encounter with Emirati artist Abdulla Lutfi, who navigates the autism spectrum. Witnessing Lutfi's journey from using art as a form of communication to gaining recognition on international platforms like DXB Airport and renowned brands, Anand emphasizes the transformative power of art.
Echoing Anand's sentiments, Dev Vohra underscores the need to provide a platform for artists like Shrishti, fostering an environment where they can showcase their talents and earn a fair income.
At the core of Empower-U's mission lies a commitment to nurturing an environment of inclusivity and empowerment. By recognizing the inherent potential and creativity within individuals with special needs, the initiative seeks to dismantle barriers and amplify their voices through art.
As word spreads, Empower-U garners attention from various quarters, including art galleries, orphanages, and organizations. Akshaj Harihar emphasizes that Empower-U is more than just a website; it's a symbol of inclusivity and financial empowerment.
Gulshan Kavarana, co-founder of Special Families Group, underscores the importance of recognizing accomplished artists with special needs as equals in the art world, not merely as individuals with disabilities.
Jaiditya Malik envisions expanding Empower-U's scope to encompass diverse forms of artistic expression beyond visual art, such as sculptures and photography. Moreover, they aim to extend their outreach to include adults with special needs, fostering a culture of creativity and inclusivity.
Through their dedication to the transformative power of art, Dev, Zahaan, Akshaj, and Jaiditya aspire to pave the way for a society that embraces diversity, tolerance, and creativity in all its forms. With Empower-U, they are not just changing the art scene; they are changing lives.
