Dubai school announces distance learning; most to resume in-person classes after heavy rains
Heavy rains in Dubai over the weekend have prompted some schools to opt for distance learning on Monday, while others are set to resume in-person classes. Despite warnings from authorities, the downpour resulted in widespread disruptions, including road closures and traffic tailbacks. The Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA), Dubai's education regulator, announced the possibility of remote learning for private schools, nurseries, and universities if rain damage occurred. Many schools indicated readiness for in-person classes, with only a few opting for distance learning. Gulf Indian High School Dubai decided on distance learning for KG students to grades 9 and 11, while CBSE Board exams proceeded as scheduled. Gillian Hammond, Principal of Repton School Dubai, emphasized their commitment to remain open regardless of weather conditions, thanks to the dedicated support teams. Zafar Raja, Group Chief Operating Officer of GEMS Education, expressed gratitude to support staff for preparing campuses and resolving issues. Principals appreciated early weather warnings and assured families of close monitoring and updates on school operations. Deepika Thapar Singh, CEO & Principal of Credence High School, confirmed face-to-face learning, highlighting the school's preparedness for safe operations.
