Brave Emirati Captain Rescues 8 Lives, Recovers 2 Bodies in Dubai Sea
In a tale of courage and quick thinking, 63-year-old Emirati fisherman, Issa Muhammad Al Falasi, emerged as a hero after saving eight lives and recovering two bodies from the treacherous waters off Dubai. The incident, which occurred on January 11 during a routine fishing trip, involved a group of individuals facing perilous conditions while out at sea.
Al Falasi, captain of a fishing boat, had set sail from Al Hamriyah Port in Dubai at 10 am, accompanied by two workers. Little did he know that this day would become a testament to his bravery and lifesaving skills. In an unexpected turn of events, he spotted a person in the distance wearing a life jacket, being carried away by the waves.
Swiftly maneuvering his boat towards the distressed individual, Al Falasi managed to pull the man on board and administered crucial first aid. To his astonishment, the survivor revealed that there were nine others from a rented boat in distress. Despite lacking phone coverage, Al Falasi embarked on a mission to locate the remaining survivors.
Recounting the ordeal, Al Falasi expressed the challenges he faced: "I didn't have phone coverage, so I couldn't immediately request assistance from the competent authorities. I wanted to quickly find any survivors." Undeterred, he navigated his boat in different directions during the search, eventually rescuing a total of eight survivors. Tragically, two bodies were also recovered from the sea.
On that fateful day, Al Falasi altered his routine, leaving the port later than usual due to maintenance work on the boat's engine. He described the moment when he spotted the first survivor, saying, "While I was heading to the fishing site, I saw a person wearing a life jacket in the distance being carried by the raging waves, so I rushed to him, only to find that he had nearly drowned and was exhausted."
The rescued survivor, filled with "fear and fatigue," informed Al Falasi about the remaining individuals who had possibly drowned. Unable to call for help due to the lack of phone coverage, Al Falasi took it upon himself to search for the survivors, entering into a race against time.
Describing the search mission that lasted around half an hour, Al Falasi shared, "I found eight people, who were frightened and exhausted. I provided them with first aid and motivated them with some words that calmed them down, and I resumed my mission to search for the remaining two people."
Constantly monitoring the waves and sailing in different directions, Al Falasi eventually located the last two individuals and recovered their bodies. With all ten men accounted for, he immediately headed to the nearest Coast Guard point, initiating the coordination with authorities, including Dubai Police and the ambulance.
Al Falasi, a father of four daughters and two sons, has been working at sea since the age of seven. His courageous act in the face of adversity serves as a testament to the indomitable spirit of individuals dedicated to saving lives at sea.
