Beautician Jailed for Extortion Attempt Following Affair with Married Man
A 45-year-old beautician in Dubai has been sentenced to three months in jail for attempting to extort Dh1 million from a 57-year-old Australian consultant with whom she had an intimate relationship. The court also ordered her deportation after serving her prison term.
The Dubai Criminal Court heard the case last Wednesday, revealing that the Polish defendant used sensitive personal information to threaten the man and demand money. According to reports, the relationship between the two soured when the woman discovered that the man was married, leading to a confrontation where she demanded compensation.
Despite the man's payment of Dh300,000 in an effort to keep the affair hidden from his family, the woman continued to threaten him. The man's Emirati lawyer, Awatif Mohammad, stated during the court proceedings that the defendant persisted in her demands despite the payment.
The couple's relationship began in September 2022 and ended in March 2023 when the man decided to prioritize his marriage and family. Following the breakup, the woman waited a month before initiating a series of disrespectful messages, according to court records.
The beautician also made threatening calls and obtained contact numbers for the man's wife, children, and other family members, sending them intimate photographs of the couple. The man reported her to the police in May last year.
In addition to the criminal proceedings, the man's lawyer filed a civil case demanding temporary compensation of Dh51,000 for the emotional distress inflicted upon the client, who feared the impact on his family and reputation.
The Criminal Court convicted the woman, sentencing her to three months in prison and ordering her deportation. The civil case was referred to the Civil Court for further action.
In conclusion, the case highlights the consequences of extortion and misuse of personal information in relationships. The verdict serves as a deterrent against similar actions and underscores the importance of respecting privacy and boundaries in personal affairs.
