BD and Emirates Nursing Association Collaborate to Enhance Healthcare Standards
BD (Becton, Dickinson, and Company) and the Emirates Nursing Association (ENA) have joined forces to elevate patient safety and healthcare worker protection in the UAE. This strategic collaboration aims to address critical areas such as infection prevention, complications reduction, medication management, and vascular access management.
Formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), the partnership signifies a significant step towards revolutionizing nursing and midwifery practices in the region. Dr. Sumaya Al Blooshi, President of ENA, emphasized the importance of this initiative in promoting excellence in nursing and midwifery. By leveraging BD's expertise in medical technology, the ENA aims to empower healthcare professionals with the knowledge and tools necessary to deliver high-quality care while ensuring their safety.
Maher Elhassan, Vice President and General Manager of BD Middle East, North Africa, and Turkey, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration's potential to advance healthcare outcomes in the UAE. By focusing on areas such as infection prevention and medication management, BD and ENA are committed to promoting patient safety and enhancing the efficiency of healthcare practices.
The collaboration will adopt a comprehensive approach encompassing training programs, community activities, research studies, and the development of national standards and practice guides. Special emphasis will be placed on combating needle-stick injuries and improving specimen collection quality and efficiency. This holistic commitment reflects the shared goal of elevating healthcare standards and benefiting both patients and healthcare workers.
With healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) posing a significant global challenge, the timing of this collaboration is crucial. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), approximately 1 in 10 patients in hospitals worldwide will die due to HAIs. The partnership between BD and ENA will focus on addressing HAIs such as Surgical Site Infections (SSI), Central Line-Associated Bloodstream Infections (CLABSI), and Catheter-Associated Urinary Tract Infections (CAUTI).
Overall, the collaboration between BD and ENA holds promise for driving positive change in healthcare delivery and patient outcomes in the UAE. By leveraging their respective expertise and resources, the two organizations aim to create a safer and more efficient healthcare environment for all stakeholders involved.
