2024 Honda ZR-V EX review

The 2024 Honda ZR-V EX is a compact crossover that slots neatly between the smaller HR-V and the larger CR-V, catering specifically to Generation Z. Priced at a relatively affordable Dh129,900, the ZR-V EX aims to offer an urban-friendly vehicle with a blend of style, functionality, and performance.

Visually, the ZR-V impresses with sleek LED headlamps, dynamic indicators, and a design that resembles the 8th gen Civic. It features a black grille, black window surrounds, trapezoidal exhaust tips, and dual-tone 18-inch wheels, adding a touch of sportiness. Inside, the cabin is functional and stylish, featuring black surfaces with a distinctive hexagonal mesh grille. The seats are upholstered in dark leather with a purple tint and orange stitching, extending this premium feel to parts of the dashboard and door panels.

Comfort is prioritized with power-adjustable seats for both driver and passenger. The interior is spacious enough to comfortably accommodate tall passengers in the rear seats, although three would be a tight fit. Storage options include an average-sized glove box, multiple cupholders, and a central cubby. Notably, the ZR-V includes a coat hanger behind the driver’s seat, enhancing its practicality.

The technology suite in the ZR-V is modern and intuitive, featuring a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster and a 9-inch infotainment screen. It offers wireless Apple CarPlay and wired Android Auto, supported by a 12-speaker Bose sound system. However, built-in navigation is absent, though it's not a significant drawback given the smartphone integration.

In terms of performance, the ZR-V is powered by a 1.5L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine producing 180 bhp, paired with a CVT. The vehicle delivers a responsive and engaging driving experience, with quick acceleration and a precise steering system. Despite being front-wheel drive, the ZR-V handles well, with minimal body roll and effective brakes.

Fuel efficiency is decent, averaging between 9 to 11 km/l in city driving, though falling short of the claimed 16.5 km/l. Safety features are comprehensive, including a 360-degree camera, hill descent control, and the Honda Sensing suite with adaptive cruise control, blind spot warning, and lane keep assist.

The ZR-V's design and feature set make it appealing to a broad audience, offering both style and substance. Despite minor shortcomings like average A/C performance and the lack of a navigation system or all-wheel drive option, the ZR-V represents good value for money. It combines a chic design, robust build quality, and an enjoyable driving experience, making it a practical choice for everyday use.

Good: Chic design, build quality, features, fun to drive, reliability, and residual value
