Regulatory Crackdown: Abu Dhabi Health Centre Fined and Facilities Shut Down

In a significant move, the Department of Health in Abu Dhabi (DoH) has imposed a fine of Dh1 million on a health centre in the emirate, with several doctors under investigation for suspected fraud. This stringent action follows a series of measures taken by the health department against multiple healthcare facilities found in violation of laws, regulations, and policies governing healthcare in Abu Dhabi.

 Financial Penalty and Investigations:

The health centre in question has incurred a substantial fine of Dh1 million due to suspected fraudulent activities aimed at misappropriating public funds. Additionally, several doctors associated with the centre are now under investigation on charges of fraud. As a consequence, the centre is now prohibited from providing dental services across all its branches, effectively barring them from offering such services in the future.

 Widespread Facility Closures:

Apart from the fined health centre, DoH has taken decisive action by closing down eight other healthcare facilities following extensive inspections. Three of these facilities, including an occupational medicine centre, a laboratory, and a medical centre, violated laws related to the prevention of infectious diseases. Four home care facilities were also shut down due to their failure to comply with the Department's standards and regulations governing home care services. Additionally, a dental clinic faced closure due to multiple violations, such as the employment of unlicensed healthcare professionals and non-compliance with sterilisation protocols.

 Multiple Violations Uncovered:

The healthcare facilities faced charges ranging from failing to report cases of infectious diseases, non-compliance with electronic reporting regulations, and neglecting to provide medicines or supplies for emergency cases. Violations also included failing to prevent infection, inadequate storage of medical records, non-adherence to home care service standards, failure to obtain patient consent for treatment, lack of clarity on treatment procedures and risks, and employing health professionals without DoH licenses.

 DoH's Call for Compliance:

DoH has urged all healthcare facilities operating in Abu Dhabi to strictly adhere to its policies and regulations. The aim is to preserve the efficiency of the healthcare system, ensure the health and safety of the community, and maintain the provision of healthcare services in alignment with international best practices. The regulatory crackdown reflects the commitment of DoH to uphold high standards in healthcare delivery, safeguard public health, and root out fraudulent practices within the industry.

In summary, the health centre's financial penalty and the closure of multiple facilities underscore the authorities' commitment to enforcing healthcare regulations. This move aims to send a strong message regarding the importance of compliance, transparency, and adherence to established standards within the healthcare sector in Abu Dhabi.
