Fatma Salem, a 23-year-old Emirati, defies stereotypes by excelling in the male-dominated logistics and operations sector. Working with Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA), Salem operates forklifts and heavy machinery, showcasing the UAE's commitment to diversifying its industrial workforce.

 Navigating Heavy Machinery 

Salem's role at EGA involves maneuvering heavy materials and operating the vacuum unloader at Jebel Ali Port. Despite initial challenges, Salem's determination and continuous training have enabled her to thrive in her role, contributing to the efficient transportation of goods.

 From Therapeutic Radiology to Aluminium Industry 

Originally a student of therapeutic radiology, Salem's career path took a new direction due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Inspired by an EGA training program for high-school graduates, Salem transitioned into the aluminium industry, seizing the opportunity to pursue technical roles.

 Comprehensive Training and Support

EGA's training program provided Salem with a comprehensive understanding of her role, covering operational details, mathematics, physics, chemistry, and safety protocols. Salem emphasizes the importance of continuous training and support in overcoming initial challenges and adapting to her responsibilities.

 Overcoming Scepticism and Encouraging Others 

Despite initial skepticism from her community and the daunting nature of her job, Salem's determination and support from colleagues and supervisors propelled her forward. Her success serves as an inspiration for other Emirati women to pursue diverse and challenging careers, encouraged by a supportive leadership and a country committed to empowerment.
