The UAE Jiu-Jitsu national team is preparing to leave a lasting impact at the World Jiu-Jitsu Cup, scheduled for Saturday, August 24, in Zadar, Croatia.

The Jiu-Jitsu International Federation will host a tournament with over 350 athletes from 24 countries, competing in different age groups and weight classes. On Thursday, the team from the UAE, made up of 21 athletes, set off for Croatia.

The team has participated in four international events this year, including The World Jiu-Jitsu Cup. Before, the team successfully protected their championship at the eighth Jiu-Jitsu Asian Championship, displayed their talents at the Grand Prix Thailand Open, and impressed at the Jiu-Jitsu Asian Union Regional Championship West Asia in Jordan.

Mubarak Al Menhali, who is the Director of the Technical Department at the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation, stated that the National Team joining the World Jiu-Jitsu Cup 2024 showcases our ongoing commitment to proving our superiority in regional and global contests. It also assists us in getting ready for future events and bolsters our dominance in this sport.

He continued by saying, "This tournament assesses how prepared our team is and offers valuable experience to our athletes as they face off against some of the top teams in the world." This is in line with the Federation's strategy to prioritize the development of young people, helping them improve and strengthen their abilities. We believe that our team is dedicated and ready to compete strongly to represent the UAE on the global platform.

According to Pedro Damasceno, who trains the U18 team, the World Jiu-Jitsu Cup 2024 is essential because it will give us an idea of where we are at and assist us in getting ready for the challenging Jiu-Jitsu World Championship in Greece later this year. Our athletes are prepared and the national team is ready. We are confident that with the strong backing of the federation and clubs, everything will run smoothly and we aim to achieve excellent outcomes.

There are four coaches traveling with the team, with me serving as the head coach for U18. The assistance from the federation members and organizers has been vital in our preparation process and is greatly appreciated. We are anticipating impressive showings from our fighters and are excited to finally assess the results of our two months' worth of hard work.

The U18 team consists of Obaidi Saeed Alketbi at -52kg, Saeed Alnuaimi and Salem Alqabaisi at -62kg, Ahmed Andeez and Harib Alhammadi at -69kg, Abdulrahman Al Salah and Salem Salah at -77kg, and Abdulla Ahmed Aldarmaki and Theyab Aljneibi at -85kg.

In the U16 category, Zayed Alhammadi and Hamdan Alnajar will battle in the -52kg class, while Hamdan Mubarak Aldhaheri and Hazza Ahmed Alkaabi will face off in the -56kg division, Saif Hamad Al Ameri and Mansour Alkaabi will compete in the -62kg group, and Yousef Alkhoori and Abdulla Andeez will fight it out in the -69kg category.

In the -36kg category, Saoud Alblooshi will compete; Mayed Alhosani will compete in the -40kg category; and Khalfan Mohamed Alqubaisi and Ahmed Alketbi will represent the UAE in the -48kg weight class for the U14 division.
