UAE suspends telemarketers' mobile numbers, fines for violations
The authorities have recognized more than 2,000 offenses that were in violation of the regulations.
With the new regulations in place, UAE authorities have banned crazing erred telemarketing and punished many people.
The authority detected more than 2000 violations; thus, the Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority (TDRA) has punished several individuals.
Apart from imposing financial penalties, suspension of numbers of several individuals has been executed. This law has been implemented in compliance with Cabinet Resolutions nos. 56 and 57 of 2024, which forbids marketing activities over personal numbers.
As per it, if a person resorts to making a marketing call for sale of products and services through telephone numbers issued in his/her name, he/she is liable to be fined Dh5,000. All the numbers of fixed or mobile phones that are registered under his/her name will also be cut off until payment for a first violation.
Every time a person repeats the said offense, he/she will pay an additional fine of Dh20,000 and there will be a prohibition imposed on the utilization of all numbers that are under the person’s name for a period of 3 months.
The penalty rises as much as Dh50,000 and a person is blocked from receiving any service from the Dubai based telecom companies for twelve months whenever a similar offense is committed by a given individual within 30 days of the first act.
The enforcement seeks to shield the residents of the UAE from fraudulent and annoying tele-marketing calls as the country enacted new laws in Aug 2024.
These regulations put restrictions on “cold calling”, such as quoting and calling only between 09:00 am to 6:00 pm; not calling the same resident on the same day again after he or she has rejected the service or product for a first time; and there are also laws that bar telemarketing firms from using any means or strategies that are not normal that will make them hard sell their goods or services to the client.
Fines will be imposed on cold callers and telemarketing companies, which range from Dh 5,000 up to Dh 150,000 if the law is contravened.
There are steep sanctions for each case there after for instance every case of defiance brings with it higher fines within the same administrative structure. Gradation of punishment has been specified for administrative penalties in three stages – within infractions – repeat first and the second. Under Cabinet Resolution No. (57) of 2024, penalties have been raised for each instance of disobedience.
