Two crew members suffered a medical incident aboard a freighter and were pulled from the water, the National Search and Rescue Centre of the UAE National Guard said Sunday. It happened 6.5 nautical miles from Al Hamriyah Port in Sharjah.

The National Guard did manage to complete the rescue after they got the emergency alert and were able to get the Coast Guard Group to find the ship. A search and rescue boat was immediately called and the injured taken to the dock.

On-site first aid was performed and one of the injured was taken by National Ambulance to hospital for treatment.

The rescue comes after the same operation on Nov. 21 when the National Guard crew attended to a medical call 10 nautical miles offshore Zirku Island in Abu Dhabi. Someone on a commercial fishing boat had an inoperable condition, so the National Guard was called out right away following the distress call.

The rescue group called on people to observe safety procedures and encouraged sailors to make sure they reach out to the marine emergency line (996) if there was any emergency to provide quick service and keep people safe.
