UAE National Day celebrations to be called Eid Al Etihad
On Tuesday, the organizing committee for the UAE National Day celebrations also officially revealed its name, which is 'Eid Al Etihad.’
The name highlights the theme of ‘union’ (Etihad) and rejoices the coming of the Emirates together as one on the 2nd of December of the year 1971. The theme is crucial to the country’s ‘national character, representing antiquities, togetherness, power and national heroism’.
Typically, on this date, a spectacular show is staged that is generally graced by the Rulers of the Emirate. The committee however said there will be several activities across the day at ‘Eid Al Etihad zones’ in all seven Emirates. The venue for the show this year has not yet been disclosed.
This year’s National Day holiday will be the very last extended weekend in 2024. The 2nd and 3rd of December are a Monday and Tuesday in that order; combining the two days to Saturday and Sunday creates a four-day break
On the other hand, Eisa Alsubousi who is the director of Strategic and Creative Affairs of the Organising Committee of the 53rd Eid Al Etihad Celebration said, “We are happy to welcome all people to celebrate this important historical achievement which is the marriage of all seven emirates.”
As part of the celebrations we have developed in-depth guides to help foster and prepare for the celebrations in an environmentally friendly way. We invite government authorities, private businesses, schools and families as well to make use of these materials and participate in this important occasion’”
The 53rd Eid Al Etihad will emphasize the significance of sustainability and active participation. Residents are urged to participate actively and efficiently by cutting down on waste, recycling or upcycling what they already have, as well as re-using materials or resources available to them.
“For instance, we want to allocate funds to redesign old decor and use this new equipment for Eid Al Etihad. The 53rd Eid Al Etihad festivities are in fact preceded and followed by instructions on how to take part in the festivities in a sustainable manner while at home, school or at work. Consciously contributing to religious activities and making change for the better is always possible,” the organizers stated.
