During the opening session of the World Government Summit on Tuesday a UAE minister presented an audacious vision for the forthcoming 25 years and urged international leaders to reconsider established educational systems, economic growth models and social values in light of technological developments.

Mohammad Al Gergawi challenged the continuing relevance of traditional education systems while serving as UAE Minister of Cabinet Affairs and World Governments Summit Organisation Chairman and encouraged governments to adopt AI-based educational models for individualized learning.

He predicted that AI would transform education through personalized learning experiences that broaden access to educational opportunities worldwide.

Human augmentation technologies will soon emerge to transform physical abilities along with mental capabilities according to his predictions. Al Gergawi believes these developments will usher in a new age where humans integrate artificial improvements to boost their productivity along with their lifespan and creative abilities.

The evolution of these technologies will bring forth new ethical challenges for societies while offering unparalleled solutions for critical global problems. Human civilization is currently moving beyond its current phase into a completely new historical stage.

Future projections for 2050

Al Gergawi provided essential predictions concerning the world’s future developments over the next 25 years.

By 2050 scientists predict that the Earth’s population will reach 10 billion people with most of this growth happening in Asia and Africa. The growing population will create inevitable impacts on employment opportunities as well as consumption trends throughout the world economy. The UAE has started to tackle these challenges through its commitment to sustainable growth strategies and workforce future-proofing initiatives.

When 2050 arrives, adults over 60 will represent over 20 percent of the world population which will create major issues for health and social support systems. Governments must enhance their healthcare systems and social support structures as well as pension arrangements to meet the increased demands of an expanding elderly population.

Al Gergawi anticipated that robotics would become a major force with an estimated operation of over 20 billion robots by 2050. Robotics will transform industries while simultaneously reshaping labor markets and changing skill requirements.

Through its investment in robotics and AI technology the UAE shows its dedication to adapting to changing times while equipping its population for future challenges.

Human values and global responsibility

Al Gergawi recognized significant progress in prosperity and education and healthcare systems but emphasized the necessity of ongoing international efforts to fight extreme poverty. He requested a global agenda focused on values because 630 million people remain in extreme poverty. He pointed out that eliminating hunger and disease would necessitate annual funding of approximately $800 billion.

The $800 billion needed to fight hunger and disease may appear alarming but it is not as intimidating when examined closely. The world’s top 50 economies could generate $880 billion for humanitarian needs by contributing just one percent of their GDP.

Through dedicating one and a half percent of its GDP for humanitarian assistance the UAE leads globally as a model for other nations to emulate. As Al Gergawi stated, "We control the decision."

Al Gergawi rejected the conventional belief that economic growth stands as the exclusive indicator of national prosperity. Largest economies do not automatically equate to stable societies or wealthy nations according to research findings.

Al Gergawi highlighted the importance for governments to adopt a more comprehensive view of growth that includes social stability and mental health while taking into account the quality of life as over 200 million people globally suffer from mental health disorders.

Public trust in governments has decreased in the past twenty years according to the Trust Index report which shows that only 52 percent of people globally maintain their trust in government institutions. Loss of public trust has led to increased populist movements and widespread protests globally. According to Al Gergawi restoring trust stands as an essential factor for future global governance.

The cost of conflicts and wars

Al Gergawi informed his audience about the destructive outcomes of wars and conflicts by noting that violence has taken two million lives and displaced 120 million people during the last 25 years.

Only four percent of conflicts resulted in peace agreements despite their tragic consequences. The message was clear: The global community needs to prioritize diplomatic solutions instead of violence and direct efforts towards preventing conflicts rather than resolving them.

Al Gergawi stressed that today's decisions will determine humanity’s future direction. The future needs no miracles but demands that we uphold our humanitarian principles. A future that centers on human welfare needs collaborative efforts from governments together with businesses and individuals.

The UAE minister advocates for immediate global action to prevent conflicts rather than waiting to solve them later. Read the key insights. Stay updated with the latest news by subscribing to Just Dubai!
