UAE leaders order release of over 4,500 prisoners ahead of 53rd National Day
On Wednesday, 2,269 prisoners were pardoned as per the judgment of the President of the UAE, Sheikh Mohamed.
This is the Emirati prisoners' first release following a year's incarceration at penal and correctional institutions as this event takes place during the 53rd anniversary of UAE National Day.
The first lady of the Ruler stated that the whole amount including all the fines and penalties to the inmates who have strictly committed a variety of offenses will be recited.This approach does not only seek to assist the released inmates to live new lives full of stability and happiness to them and their families but reduces their pain as well.
It was also the wish of the Ruler of Dubai’s to free 1,169 inmates, convicted of several crimes, residing in correctional and other institutions of the Emirate.
This order is expected to be executed in the shortest period of time possible such that the happiness and joy of those families and relatives of the chosen prisoners is granted.
Since this order from Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister, is very much Muslim in nature so it is pleasant to grant such enhancement and liberation. The aim, according to the decree’s wording was to allow inmates another chance so that they can regain their goodness and use it for the benefit to themselves and the society.
Similarly, Sharjah’s Ruler directed the release of 683 prisoners in commemoration of the UAE’s 53rd National Day.
One of the reasons they were released is that they applied for a pardon and their conduct was satisfactory, said the leader who is Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al-Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council, Governor of Sharjah.
They were incarcerated over petty offenses, Shaykh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, a member of the Supreme Council and ruler of Ajman, also directed the release of 304 prisoners who are held in correction and punitive facilities within the emirate of Ajman.
The reformation work is still underway but it was also noted that those that were slated for amnesty had to meet certain stringent conditions including good behaviour and meeting set timelines immediately before the 53rd National Celebration Day.
According to the UAE authorities, barefoot Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al-Sharqi who is the Ruler of Fujairah and a member of the Supreme Council, the objective of the program is to give the inmates an opportunity for a new beginning and happiness for the families of the inmates.
Yesterday, a new Federal Decree-Law was placed into effect concerning the regulation of penal and corrective institutions in the UAE, including the issuance of fundamental principles concerning management practices and activities in the areas regulated by the law. The decree seeks to enhance the integration of the institutions’ functions so that inmates are prepared for a successful return to society, and their rights are preserved as well.
