The Central Bank of the United Arab Emirates (CBUAE) has recently introduced a new Dh 100 banknote, which is now made of polymer and has been newly designed with advanced security features.

Starting today, March 24, the new polymer banknote is in circulation alongside the old Dh 100 note. All banks and exchange houses have been ordered to update their cash deposit machines and counting devices so that they will accept the new notes together with the older paper and polymer notes, which are legally guaranteed.

The design of the new polymer banknote is unique, as it has multiple shades of red while the CBUAE has kept the color features of the current denomination. The design also includes the nation brand of UAE with the country's drawings and inscriptions intricately and sophisticatedly printed.

The new polymer banknote has the Umm Al Quwain National Fort on the front side while the reverse side depicts the Port of Fujairah which happens to be one of the biggest ports of the country and a key center for shipping and maritime transportation.

Furthermore, it connects all 7 emirates including the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries through a new railway network known as Etihad Rail. It is specifically designed for economic purposes and will socially integrate these regions over time due to its expansive infrastructure and logistics.

You can witness the UAE’s success story within the newly designed Dh100 banknote, alongside various cultural and developmental symbols that illustrate how the country emerged as a global economic and commercial hub. The new banknote is part of the national currency project Third Issuance by CBUAE.

Alongside boosting consumer confidence, the Dh100 banknote also fights against forgery by embedding modern SPARK Flow DIMENSIONS and KINEGRAM COLORS multi-shaded security chip technology. These make the banknote much more difficult to counterfeit.

This issue introduces prominently placed braille symbols to assist blind and visually impaired consumers with identifying the banknote’s value, which further exemplifies the CBUAE's attempt to consider all users. Polymer banknotes are also much more eco-friendly and durable compared to paper banknotes, lasting two or more times longer in circulation.

The CBUAE has recently added another feather to its prized cap by winning the “Best New Banknote” award for the years 2023/2025 at the High Security Printing EMEA conference for their unique designs as well as new technological features and protective innovations on the Dh500 and Dh1,000 polymer banknotes.

In the words of Khaled Mohamed Balama, Governor of the CBUAE, “The new Dh100 banknote reflects our commitment to the leadership’s vision for a sustainable future through various initiatives and milestones that help achieve Net Zero while improving the country’s financial competitiveness.” He further elaborated, “Its design represents the aspirations of the UAE for future development and economic growth while paying tribute to the UAE’s rich history and culture. It is our pleasure to make this special announcement in relation to the Eid Al Fitr festivities.”

The Dh100 polymer banknote is now in circulation, so grab it while it’s hot! Remember to tell your friends and family about this new addition to the UAE currency. For the latest info on Dubai make sure to subscribe to Just Dubai!
