UAE Football Association alleges serious refereeing errors in Arabian Gulf Cup match against Kuwait
The UAE Football Association is deeply unhappy with serious refereeing mistakes made in Arabian Gulf Cup (December 21-January 3) between UAE and Kuwait in Khaleeji Zain 26.
These mistakes influenced the final result of the game, which was 2-1 to the UAE. The second yellow card Kwame received, the Football Association said, was wrong.
"So his ban was also wrong, in addition to the "VAR" calls that are not equitable," the country’s football association stated.
The Association has reiterated in its letter to the Gulf Federation, that the League should immediately do whatever it takes to safeguard the tournament and the teams that are participating in it from such mishaps, and that they will, if repeated, damage the tournament and its image.
UAE to take on Oman, in a must-win group stage match on Friday to retain knockout round status.
‘It’s hard, but it’s not impossible. We need to recharge, we need to interpret and then set up. No, not on the pitch, we don’t train too much since we only have 72 hours," UAE coach Paulo Bento said after Kuwait.
"All of our energy should go to the next game because we still can get in the next round even though we know the opponent is good and that this is not going to be an easy game.
"We don’t know what will happen until after the group phase," he said. Two matches in and two points for the UAE, after a 1-1 draw against Qatar on Saturday.
Eight teams have been grouped into two groups of four each in the 26th Gulf Cup event in the UAE. Group B comprises of Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Iraq and Yemen for knockout stage.
