UAE firms offer flexible hours for parents
Some working parents in the UAE have already scheduled the first day of school next week, notifying their employers that they will arrive late.
Officials declared a new back-to-school policy that includes flexible hours for certain government workers. While not all private companies adopt this practice, certain businesses in the industry are accommodating alternative schedules to help staff with school-going kids.
While the program doesn't extend to private businesses, certain companies in the industry are also offering flexibility to their staff.
Emirati mother Huda A., employed at a real estate company, successfully asked her boss for a flexible work schedule. She stated, "I need to compensate for the time I will be absent from work."
I need to take my two daughters to separate schools and leave them there. She mentioned that they would come back home in the afternoon using the bus.
Winnie Agat, a mother from India, had informed that she would be beginning work later than her usual time.
I have to leave my daughter at 7.30am before work at 8am, but it's okay. The scenario is more complicated with my son in kindergarten as parents are required to remain in the classroom for an hour and a half. She mentioned that she will have to take him back home before going to work, which will require about three hours.
Some individuals need to make additional changes, particularly when they have several children beginning school on various days.
'I will not forget this important moment'
Emirati mother Haleema Abdulla considers it a significant event to drop her children off at school on the first day of the academic year, as it has the potential to greatly impact their day. She didn't want to miss the "milestone moment," so when the flexible-work policy for government employees was announced by the authorities, she felt grateful.
I have two kids enrolled in two separate schools. Haleema, who works at the Ministry of Education, stated that the three-hour period will be beneficial for her to drop off her first-grade daughter and assist in making her feel at ease.
The FAHR has allowed public sector workers to have flexible work hours on the first day of school so they can take their children to school and pick them up.
The program will also be used for significant occasions during the academic year, such as parent-teacher conferences and graduation ceremonies. The maximum duration for the flexible period is three hours, which may be taken at once or split between morning and evening. Parents with children in nursery and kindergarten have the opportunity to take advantage of the flexibility during the entirety of the first week of the school year.
Hussain Mohammed, an employee at a Dubai governmental organization, has already scheduled his day.
I make it a point to accompany my daughter on her first day of school because she is my only child, and I want to show my support. He stated that he is not concerned as his job offers him nine hours of time off every month.
