UAE: Delivery riders not allowed on fast lanes as Ajman announces traffic rule
As announced on Thursday, delivery riders in Ajman are required to stick to the designated lanes for their respective vehicles on the right side of the road. They are prohibited from using the faster leftmost lanes. These restrictions have already been implemented in two other Emirates – Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
For example, on a three-lane road, two rightmost lanes are available to delivery bikes, while the leftmost lane remains inaccessible. Ajman’s delivery riders are not permitted to drive in the two leftmost lanes on the four-lane road.
In 2023, Abu Dhabi put restrictions on the use of delivery bikes, permitting them only to the right lane on roads with speed limits of 100 km/h and above. Like Ajman, they are not allowed to use the two leftmost lanes.
This means that, if the motorcyclists are on 3 to 4 lane roads with speed limits of over 100 km/h in Abu Dhabi, they are restricted to the two rightmost lanes. Instead, in a five lane road, they’re allowed to use the three rightmost lanes.
These restrictions were implemented in Dubai in 2021. Delivery riders are not permitted to use the left lane and are instead encouraged to operate under a speed limit of 100 km/h.
Not obeying traffic laws could result in penalties of as much as Dh700, with a repeat fine leading to suspension of driving privileges.
