UAE approves mandatory higher education criteria for Emiratis studying abroad
On Monday, the UAE approved specific criteria for the international scholarship options of Emirati students studying in universities outside of the country. The decision also aligns with the student career readiness initiatives.
The criteria include the following based on international rankings recognized by the Ministry:
-
The institution must be ranked among the top 50 universities worldwide in the intended field of study
-
The institution must be ranked among the top 100 universities both in the particular field of study and overall for those studying in the US or Australia
-
For students from any other English-speaking country, with the exception of USA and Australia must be ranked among the top 200 universities both in the particular field of study and overall
-
For students from non-English speaking countries, must be ranked among the top 300 universities both in the particular field of study and overall
The foreign institutions’ eligibility criteria guarantees that UAE national students are provided the information needed to make informed choices with regard to the quality of institutions and program on offer.
Also, the action extends to student citizens studying abroad by providing them with a grace period of one year for them to realign their academic credentials. If an exemption request is filed, it will be considered by a specialized committee under the General Secretariat of the Education, Human Development, and Community Development Council.
