UAE: 8 convicted for sexually exploiting children via online gaming, social media

In Abu Dhabi, a court has given eight people prison terms for child sexual exploitation through online investigations which showed that they groomed minors over social media and gaming sites for the purpose of exposing themselves.
The individuals were also guilty of distributing and acquiring indecent material of minors.
The Abu Dhabi Criminal Court in its decision has ranged the convicts from 3 to 15 year jail terms paired with total fines reaching 1 million dirhams.
Aside from the jail terms and the penalty, the court also ruled for the criminals to have the sanctioned devices seized, to have blocked internet access, and to serve prison sentences.
In addition, the convicts will have their associated online accounts deleted and 3 of the convicts will serve their prison sentences with deportation.
This is subsequent to the monitoring of the exploitation of minors over the internet by Abu Dhabi authorities alongside other strange online activities. After a sizable amount of work, warrants were issued and the defendants were arrested.
Forensic investigations have proven that the arrested have acquired and spread online child pornographic materials.
Monday’s statement released by the Abu Dhabi Public Prosecution emphasized the need for parents to protect their children from the consequences of accepting friend requests from strangers on social media or gaming sites. It also instructed parents on how to appropriately guide children who become victims of blackmail.
