UAE: 25% off fines for Abu Dhabi appearance violations
Two or more infringements will be regarded as a more serious offense, hence a greater penalty will be imposed
Fines for violation of public appearance laws in the emirate of Abu Dhabi can now be avoided by 75 percent, but on the condition that they rectify the violation.
The recent policy initiative will make it possible for municipal officials to enforce public appearance regulations, issue violation notices, and let violators resolve the issue without further punishment.
If the violator has not done so, the municipality will take remedial action and charge the violator for the cost incurred.
Violators have the right to appeal within a week after the violation is issued.
The resolution also mentions that a repeated violation will be treated as an offense of greater severity and lack of consideration for terms within which the penalties should be satisfied. In such circumstances, the same action should be anticipated from those who do not cure violations within the period specified.
This resolution targets three groups of regulations, which are as follows:
Public appearance
This would include activities which have undesirable effects on the external beauty of a structure such as the following:
a. Allowing the decline of a building's upkeep to the extent that it becomes a hazard to the public or merely looks unattractive
b. Erecting car parking shades without obtaining any approval
c. Use of flags and banners in an inappropriate manner
d. Lack of suitable garbage bins in the places of business and other facilities
e. Installation of optional architectural embellishment on the exterior walls of the buildings
f. Depositing materials on roofs, balconies or open spaces between two houses
Preservation of public places
These regulations deal with such infringements like:
a. Disposing construction or agricultural waste in improper manner
b. Ignoring traffic signs
c. Destruction of green areas
d. Vandalism
e. Harvesting of fruits and flowers
f. Throwing away rubbish in inappropriate locations
Disturbances in public places or space
These regulations touch on disturbance on public space pertains activities which will compromise the cleanliness of the surroundings and pose health problems to the society
Violations are:
a. Blockage of any public space in order to carry out some private business activities
b. Loud or irritating sounds
c. Disorderly lighting
d. Shedding and or Circulating any printed material without prior approval
e. Smoking within or outside the company in places that are not designated for that purpose
