Two cakes after midnight: Meet UAE first babies born on 53rd National Day
The occasion of the 53rd National Day of the UAE was made extra special for some families, as hours before, the new members came into their family. Baby Yousef Al Nagas was the third child of Talal Al Malagith and Khawla Mohamed Shukralla Abdulla. Considering the time, he was born as the clock struck 12 and he weighed almost 2.7kg. “To have our baby born today, fills our celebrations with another excitement,” he said Talal. “This occasion will be in our memory for a long time.”
Dr. Hala Elsayed, Specialist in Obstetric and Gynaecological Practice, concurs that these types of instances when a child is born on a day that is extremely important for the country’s populace is indeed very gratifying. As people bring their children into this world, we are blessed to see their beautiful faces that radiate joy and love."
Eid Al Etihad – as it is formally called – honors the formation of the United Arab Emirates as a Federation in 1971 and this year, the UAE celebrated its 53rd National Day on Monday, December 2nd. Besides the program featuring a grand display of pyrotechnics set to music, there were many four-day weekends with free presents.
Mohammed Mohammed Alai Al Naqbi and Noura Al Balushi welcomed their newborn, baby Shamma Dubai, weighing 2.88 Kg on the clock when the time was 12:05 (AM) and the place was Burjeel Medical City. Both the mother and father Mountainous could not wait to have their first baby. “We have no doubt that the name selection for our first daughter, the name Shamma, is important for the Emirati people,” said Mohammed. “It's a name that defines dignity, strength , and pride which are with us. We are happy that the baby was delivered during such an important time that all Emiratis respect, a day that is marked across the land.

Shanzeh, a baby girl, was welcomed into the world by Pakistanis Syed Zakir Ali and Afia Shafique at Thumbay University Hospital in Ajman at 12:05 am, and the parents were "overjoyed" with the new arrival. Shazira, of course, emphasizes that this is still the case. “We named our daughter Shanzeh because it is from the Urdu language and means ‘Princess’. In September of this year, we also feel we have cause for celebration because we have two sach cakes at this event instead of one, one to honour the newborn and one to honour the UAE's National Day which is also on the same day.”

Baby girl, born to Indian couple Bhushan and Nupur Tapke, is now their daughter a few minutes after 2:11 am at Aster Hospital Al Qusais. “We are exceedingly happy to receive our baby on this special UAE National Day, a time which only makes this day even more special for the family,” stated Bhushan with a proud look on his face. “It is indeed a blessed occasion, and a great way to begin our journey of having children.”
In a somewhat identical scenario, Russian parents Daria Kulilk and Dmitrii Salvasser saw their yet unnamed daughter come into existence at 5:45 am. “Today we are very happy because we were celebrating UAE National day and we just had our baby girl, making this day around the world special for the family,” said Dmitrii.
At the Danat Al Emarat Hospital for Women & Children, flowers and chocolates were handed out at the time as a gift to the patients, their families and the kids within the hospital. Baby Swetha was born by the Indian Sarguru family at 4.17am with a weight of 3.08 kg. Her father, Jayaram Subburaj was like, “On this great day, to welcome our baby girl is so fulfilling and we are proud to be her parents.”
The CEO of the hospital, Dr. Summia Zaher, expressed her sincere appreciation to the families, while stating: “These family members are allowing us to witness the attractive potential of the future that shall come anyway – but it is agreeable to be born at times such as these when there is excitement and joy.”
