People from every corner of the globe have been waiting eagerly for the moon sighting as it marks the start of Dhul Hijjah, indicating the day Eid Al Adha will be celebrated which is 10 days from the start of the month.

Muslims commemorate one of the holiest days – Arafah Day – a day before Eid al Adha which falls on the 9th day of Dhul Hijjah.

Moon sightings follow an Islamic calendar which is based on a lunar cycle. So, all significant days in the Islamic calendar move forward roughly 11 days every year. This implies that the moon sighting determines the start of Dhul Hijjah and the commencement of the 10th day.

In 2024, Muslims will be able to celebrate Eid Al Adha on either Friday, June 6th or Saturday June 7th, based on moon sighting. Eid Al Adha, remains more than two months after Eid Al Fitr.
