Survivor recalls praying during terrifying Dubai accident
S.T., a student from a school in Dubai, was in a car accident on Tuesday on Hatta-Lahbab road. All she recalls is the car flipping over and sand entering the vehicle. A group of parents hired a 7-seater SUV to transport her and 11 others from near Madam in Sharjah to their schools in Garhoud.
The incident resulted in the death of a 7-year-old child and Dubai Police stated that their preliminary findings indicate that the accident was a result of the driver's speeding, negligence, and lack of attention.
After the car came to a stop, the 17-year-old exited. She stated that since she was not seriously hurt, she immediately leaped out. A single young girl was reclining on the sand with her face towards the ground. I went, flipped her over, and saw that she had sustained serious injuries. Her arm dangled from her torso. She was subsequently taken to the hospital via helicopter. That image is still vivid in my memory. One of the girls suffered from eye injuries due to the shattered glass. The child is currently hospitalized.
As per S.T., the driver was too shocked to respond after exiting the vehicle. "She said that he requested for me to contact the authorities." I quickly dialed the emergency hotline as soon as I had my phone. In less than five minutes, approximately 10 police cars and 10 ambulances arrived at the scene, with the helicopter arriving shortly after.
The accident left her younger sister, who is in fifth grade, with a fractured collarbone. She said the doctor initially recommended surgery, but after talking to my parents, they suggested she rest for two weeks before getting a scan. Because of her size, they believe the bone may heal without intervention. She is experiencing a great deal of pain when she moves.
Initial year of sharing rides
S.T. and her sister were using a private carpooling service for the first time. She said that until the previous year, our brother used to give us a ride to school before heading to university. This year, he graduated from university and started working, which is why he couldn't visit us anymore. That is the reason why we chose to go with this service.
As per the Grade 12 student, every child in the vehicle resided in the identical area. Some of us resided in Madam while the rest lived in a nearby location named Nizwa. The number for the driver was provided to us by a nurse working at a nearby clinic. Her kid was also in the same vehicle.
S.T. stated that the driver and a female relative occupied the front seat, with the other 10 students sitting in the second and third rows of the car.
We knew he had passed away
S.T. stated that she recognized right away that the 7-year-old had died. "She mentioned that after we all got out, the elderly woman in the front seat tallied us up and realized that one person was not there." The location where we crashed was near a building site. Therefore, the workers from that place hurried over. Together, they all assisted in flipping the car while the boy remained trapped underneath it. Everyone promptly began chanting prayers.
During that period, S.T.’s main focus was preventing the younger children from witnessing the horrifying scenes. She mentioned that the deceased boy's little brother was inside the vehicle. I hurriedly guided him and a couple of others away from the scene to prevent him from seeing his brother. I continuously inquired about his brother and falsely informed him that he was inside the ambulance.
She mentioned that they were visited by police and KHDA officials at the hospital. She said they instructed us to ask for whatever we required. I am still in disbelief over being involved in such a serious accident. I feel extremely thankful for my existence.
