Sharjah announces 4-day holiday for public sector employees on New Year
Emirate of Sharjah has declared 1st January, Saturday as the holiday for employees working in fields concerning Government of Sharjah and its affiliates.
Given that New Year is on a Thursday and Friday marks the first day of the 3-day weekend for government workers in the emirate, work will resume officially on Monday, January 5.
This applies to all employees except those working on shifts, the emirate said.
The UAE has declared Thursday, 1st January, 2026 to a paid holiday for all federal government employees.
It also said in the circular that Friday, Jan. 2, 2026 would be a remote-work day for federal government employees.
The first paid holiday of 2026 has been announced and residents and locals in the UAE struggling not to get swept up in the festive season. Expatriates and visitors are in for some of the best fireworks and light shows the region can offer.
In Ras Al Khaimah, organizers will illuminate a 6-kilometer stretch of coastline with more than 2,300 drones, pyrotechnics and lasers in a 15-minute long fireworks display. They are also hoping to break a Guinness World Record for the biggest single firework ever launched.
