Ramadan 2025: UAE calls on Muslims to sight Moon on February 28
The Emirates Fatwa Council announced Wednesday that Muslims in the Kingdom should sight the crescent for Ramadan on Friday evening, February 28.
According to the Umm Al Qura calendar developed by the country to establish dates and months the date is equivalent to 29 Shaban AD. Each month in the Hijri calendar has a length of either 29 or 30 days.
The Ramadan Crescent Sighting Committee under the Emirates Fatwa Council instructs observers to report any crescent moon sightings by calling 027774647.
The start of Ramadan will be March 1 if the Moon appears after the Maghrib prayer on Friday evening. If observers do not spot the crescent moon then the holy month will start on March 2.
The International Astronomy Centre of the nation forecasts that Ramadan will start on March 1. Throughout the nation every year faithful residents patiently wait for the moon sighting that will mark the start of the holy month.
The UAE's Federal Authority for Government Human Resources issued official government employee working hours for the month of Ramadan.
During the holy month private sector employees work two hours less each day than usual.
Saudi Arabia requested Muslims in the Kingdom to observe the crescent moon to begin Ramadan on Friday evening February 28.
