Starting from January 15, the minimum top-up for Nol cards at ticket offices has been increased to Dh20, as announced by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) earlier this month. This change is part of the RTA's efforts to reduce queues at offices in metro stations. However, commuters can still recharge their Nol cards for less than Dh20 through various other mediums. Here are some ways to do it:

1.  Smart Applications
   -  Nol Pay: Commuters can use the Nol Pay application to top up their Nol card balance. The minimum cost remains Dh5, and Nol Pay also functions as a loyalty and rewards program, granting points to users for each top-up. These points can be used as Nol balance or redeemed at various outlets.
   -  RTA Application:  The RTA application provides streamlined facilities for Dubai commuters. Users can top up their Nol balance, check existing balance, view past transactions, and access other metro facilities.

2.  S'hail Application:
   - S'hail is a comprehensive app for all RTA public transport services, including metro and taxis. Commuters can recharge and check their Nol balance using the app, among other Nol card-related features.

3.  Ticket Vending Machines:
   - Ticket vending machines placed near card scanning machines in metro stations have maintained their minimum top-up price at Dh5. These machines accept both cash and card payments.

4.  Solar Top-Up Machines:
   - Located in select bus stops across Dubai, solar top-up machines allow commuters to recharge their Nol cards with a minimum of Dh5. Users can also check their Nol balance at these machines.

5.  RTA Website:
   - The RTA website offers a quick, two-step process to top up Nol balance. Users need to enter their card details and proceed with the payment. The updated balance can be activated by using the card in any online parking meter, metro gate, Nol Pay application, or solar top-up machine after 45 minutes to 4 hours.

6.  Mahboub Chatbot:
   - Mahboub Chatbot, an AI service available on RTA's online platforms, simplifies the top-up process. Accessible through the RTA website, RTA mobile app, and S'hail application, the chatbot offers assistance and guidance to commuters.

These alternative methods provide flexibility and convenience for Nol card users, allowing them to recharge their cards for less than Dh20 while avoiding queues at ticket offices. The RTA's initiatives aim to enhance the overall experience of public transport users in Dubai.
