Indians in UAE: 4 new passport changes that could affect you
The Indian Government announced several important updates to the passport issuance process and Indian passport design. Though these changes will not impact every Indian citizen they remain significant for everyone to remember. These modifications were implemented to protect and secure the identities of passport holders.
Five new modifications have been implemented for the Indian passport recently.
1. New colour-coded system:
Indian authorities plan to launch a passport system that uses colour codes to differentiate between types. Passports will appear in different colors according to their specific functions. They are:
Government official — White
Diplomat — Red
Ordinary — Blue
2. Birth Certificate mandatory
As of October 1, 2023, individuals need birth certificates as exclusive birth proof for passport issuance. The issuance of this birth certificate must occur through the Municipal Corporation or the Registrar of Births and Deaths according to the Registration of Births and Deaths Act of 1969 or another authorized body.
3. Residential address
The residential address of passport holders will no longer appear printed on the passport to enhance security and privacy protections. The residential address will actually be contained within a barcode which immigration officials can scan for information retrieval.
4. Parents' names not required
Indian passport registration will not require parents' names going forward. The policy change helps shield individuals' identities and defend them against potential challenges stemming from their family status.
