India lift Champions Trophy 2025 with thrilling 4-wicket win over New Zealand
India celebrated their third Champions Trophy victory by triumphing over New Zealand in a gripping final at Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday.
With a target of 252 to chase India's captain Rohit Sharma set a powerful pace by scoring 76 runs from 83 balls. The leading run-scorer earned the player of the match accolade.
Shubman Gill scored 31 runs from 50 deliveries before Glenn Phillips took an outstanding catch at extra cover to dismiss him. Despite Virat Kohli leaving the field early India won thanks to Shreyas Iyer, Axar Patel and KL Rahul who delivered key performances.
The New Zealand team chose to bat after winning the toss and managed to resist the Indian spinners to achieve a hard-fought total of 251 runs for seven wickets. New Zealand reached 251-7 through contributions from Daryl Mitchell who scored 63 runs and Michael Bracewell who remained unbeaten on 53 after choosing to bat first.
Rachin Ravindra earned the Player of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 accolade after scoring 263 runs throughout the two-and-a-half-week competition. The four-pronged spin attack from India controlled the run rate effectively but their performance was undermined by four dropped catches from their fielders.
A strong beginning almost turned wasteful until KL Rahul secured an unbeaten 34 at the end to lead India to a successful run chase. India celebrates their third Champions Trophy triumph following their prior victories from 2002 and 2013.
