A senior official has confirmed that individuals who have overstayed in the UAE and want to legalize their residency status must show a work permit from the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation to be able to stay in the country.

Lieutenant General Mohammed Ahmed Al Marri, head of the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) in Dubai, emphasized the significance of this document during the regularization process. Expatriates staying in the UAE beyond their allowed time need to show a MoHRE work permit when applying to extend their residency. Al Marri stated that a company’s offer letter is not a genuine document.

He added that this requirement helps our efforts by allowing only those with valid employment to stay in the country.
This condition is a component of the current amnesty initiative that aims to help people rectify their residency status without incurring any legal repercussions. Al Marri believes that the work permit indicates that the individual is working for a company and playing a role in the economy of the UAE.

Al Marri stated that the work permit confirms that the applicant has a legal job in the UAE, enabling them to live and work in the country. "We aim to guarantee a seamless process so that people can lawfully carry on with their lives in the UAE."

Expats who have stayed longer than allowed and want to benefit from the amnesty program should make sure to have all required paperwork, like their work permit, ready before going to the designated centers to update their status. This will aid in avoiding any disruptions in the process.

We urge everyone who is eligible to make use of this amnesty program. He added that our objective is to offer a way for individuals to remain in the UAE legally, and we are available to assist them with this endeavor.

The amnesty program, which allows illegal residents to adjust their status without penalties, prohibition, or legal consequences, has attracted thousands of applicants seeking regularization.
