Eid Al Fitr holiday announced in these GCC countries; up to 9-day break
With Eid Al Fitr around the corner for Muslims worldwide, various countries have confirmed Eid holidays for their residents. Depending upon Moon sighting, Employees and students will get off for 10 or 11 days.
Eid is celebrated on first of Shawwal after the month of Ramadan. Islamic months are either 29 or 30 days based on the sighting of the Moon. However, the following GCC countries have already declared Eid Al Fitr holidays in other sectors:
Kuwait
In that case, if the first day of, Eid Al Fitr falls on March 30 work will be suspended for three days at all Kuwaiti ministries, governmental bodies and public institutions, work will be resumed on April 2.
On the other hand, were Eid Al-Fitr falls on March 31, work will be stop on March 30, reported to return on April 6, giving employees a 9-day long break counting the two ends of the week End (Friday and Saturday).
Holidays for state agencies with special nature will be determined at their own discretion while keeping the public interest in mind, announced the official news agency of Kuwait.
Saudi Arabia
Saudi Arabia announces 4 days Eid Al Fitr holiday for the private and non-profit sectors — Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development announces a four day Eid Al Fitr holiday for the private and non-profit sectors.
The holiday will start from March 30, and last until April 2, after which work will resume on April 3. When incorporated with the weekend falling on Friday-Saturday, that will provide a 6-day holiday for the private sector workforce.
UAE
UAE announces Eid Al Fitr holiday dates across the country for government sector employees
In UAE, the Moon sighting date is on March 29. Eid Al Fitr holidays will be on Gregorian Sunday, March 30 in case the crescent moon is spotted on March 29. The same will bring about a four-day vacation from March 29 to April 1, which will not include the Saturday end of the week.
If the Moon is not sighted on March 29 and the holy month completes 30 days, the first day of the Eid Al Fitr holiday will be on March 31. Here, residents will benefit from a five-day extended weekend, which kicks off from the 29th of March to the 2nd of April.
As Friday is a weekend for public sector employees in Sharjah, certain government employees will enjoy a six-day holiday for Eid Al Fitr.
