She was the Dubai woman in her 30s, who had been found guilty by the Dubai Criminal Court of giving free access to two psychotropic drugs — amphetamine and methamphetamine — to a male friend.

It is set back to 2 April 2024 when Dubai Police’s Anti-Narcotics Department got a tip-off that a man was smoking drugs in the Satwa area of Dubai. And they told me he had drugs, too.

After investigating, officers verified the information and received a Public Prosecution warrant on April 3, 2024 to arrest the man, search his house and check his car.

A police squad picked up the man later that night. The man was told what had been charged against him and brought to the Anti-Narcotics Unit to be interrogated.

The man’s urine sample was positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine, which are controlled psychoactive substances in UAE law.
The man voluntarily admitted to using the drugs while being interrogated and admitted to getting them free from the female accused.

He admitted to taking drugs from her twice.

Officers found four packets of crystal meth when they raided the man’s house. The fugitive showed them where the drugs were found which he had obtained from the defendant. This turned out to be the woman who was already in police custody on a separate drug charge.

At trial, the woman resigned, and her earlier confession was later retracted in prosecutorial interviews. Yet the court rejected her defence as an act of escape, and held that her confession was voluntary and conscious.

The court punished her with five years in prison and Dh50,000. It also deported her from the UAE when she was done with her sentence.
