Dubai suspends flights after drone hits airport fuel tank
Dubai International Airport flights were briefly suspended early on Monday following a drone-related incident that damaged one of the fuel tanks in the travel hub vicinity and ignited a fire.
Civil Defence teams were quoted by Dubai media office (DMO) as saying that the situation is under control and there was no fire spread, which was contained.
There were no reported injuries from the drone-related incident. A number of DXB flights were diverted to Al Maktoum Airport.
Airport Street and the Airport Tunnel have been temporarily closed to traffic, according to Dubai Police who advised motorists to take alternative routes. Casablance Street is now closed off near Al Garhoud Bridge.
Further clarifying, DMO stated that suspending flights at the airport was a precautionary measure to secure the safety of all passengers and staff.
“Travelers should check with their airlines for the latest information about their flights.”
Following the incident Emirates said it had temporarily suspended all flights to and from Dubai, while advising passengers not to head to the airport and saying information would be made public when available.
The incident happened amid the Day 17 of the US-Israel-Iran zone which has yet to witness any breakthrough from recent rounds in conflict that started February 28, 2026.
And on March 11, two drones crashed near Dubai International Airport (DXB), although air traffic at the international hub was not impacted.
But, they said three people — two Ghanaian nationals and one from Bangladesh were lightly injured as drones fell on them. An Indian national was also moderately wounded.
